New 2020 Ford Ranger – Tough
Built Ford Tough.® And Ready For Adventure.
Built Ford Tough® isn’t just a slogan. It’s an attitude that runs deep in the history of Ford truck engineering and has produced America’s popular lineup of rugged and dependable Ford pickups. That lineup is even bigger and more formidable with the 2020 Ford Ranger, tested under conditions more extreme than you would ever likely encounter. Go ahead and set a date for your next adventure. Your Ranger is ready!
Built Ford Tough®
Ford engineers set a grueling test regimen to prepare the new Ford Ranger for the demands of all-terrain travel. Durability trials on roads so punishing that robots were called in to do the driving. Days of constant shaking in the lab to help identify and reduce squeaks and rattles and to tune suspension parts and body mounts for durability and performance. Towing heavy loads over hours up steep grades at 100 degrees Fahrenheit. And traveling under heart-pounding, bone-jarring off-road conditions. The 2020 Ford Ranger. It’s more than up to the challenge of taking on your toughest test.
2.3L Ecoboost With Best-In-Class Gas Torque
Raw torque rules when you’re taking on the rugged demands of off-road terrain. And the 2020 Ford Ranger beats all other gas-powered pickups in its class with a torque rating of 310 lb.-ft. The 270 horses under the hood are mighty impressive too. The 2.3L EcoBoost is engineered with a twin-scroll turbocharger that extracts exhaust gas from pairs of cylinders in alternating sequence, maximizing pulse energy to the turbine wheel for responsiveness on demand with virtually no lag. The 10-speed SelectShift automatic, featuring Ford-patented technology, optimizes gear progressions and delivers smooth, quick-shifting up and down the gearbox.
10-Speed Automatic Transmission
The class-exclusive 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, featuring Ford-patented technology, optimizes gear progressions and delivers smooth, quick-shifting up and down the gearbox. Features include wide-span gear spacing coupled with drag-reduction actions plus three overdrive gears. Pairing SelectShift technology with the dynamic 2.3L EcoBoost engine makes the 2020 Ford Ranger tough, capable and ready for fun.
Up To 7,500 LBS. Towing And Best-In-Class Payload
You carry gear – and lots of it. That’s why the 2020 Ranger delivers an impressive 7,500 lb. tow rating and a best-in-class maximum 1,860-lb. payload rating. So whether you need to haul it or tow it, the 2020 Ford Ranger is ready for your next adventure.
High-Strength Steel Frame And Frame-Mounted Steel Bumpers
The foundation of outstanding off-road capability is strength. That’s why Ford engineers made the backbone of the 2020 Ranger a fully-boxed, high-strength steel frame with six cross members — plus frame-mounted steel bumpers and tow hooks for ruggedness and durability.
Independent A-ARM Front Suspension
The 2020 Ford Ranger has a double A-arm independent front suspension engineered for agility and control over rugged off-road terrain. The shock absorbers are the monotube type designed for fade resistance and heat dissipation. They’re also nitrogen gas-pressurized for shock-damping consistency over sustained rough road conditions.
Parabolic Rear Leaf Springs
The rear suspension of the 2020 Ranger delivers ride quality and control, both on and off the road, with two-stage parabolic leaf springs. Ford engineers knew their flexible, low-friction design enables more axle movement and flexibility with reduced stiffness over the conventional multi-leaf springs typically used in high-load applications.
New 2020 Ford Ranger – Adventure
The 2020 Ford Ranger is perfectly at home on typical everyday paved roads. But going from mild to wild where smooth pavement comes to an end — now we’re talking Ranger territory. With its high-strength steel frame, steel frame-mounted bumpers, off-road chassis components and EcoBoost® power, every Ranger is bred for adventure. And for the serious all-terrain enthusiast, there’s the Ranger outfitted with all the must-have features in the FX4 Off-Road Package.
4X4 Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly
Shifting into four-wheel drive is as easy as turning a dial with the electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system. ESOF lets you choose two four-wheel-drive modes (4×4 high or low), as well as two-wheel drive for travel on dry paved surfaces.
FX4 Off-Road Package
Serious off-roaders know what they need to get max fun out of every adventure. And it’s all in the FX4 Off-Road Package: Tuned off-road monotube shocks. All-terrain tires with aggressive tread. Traction-enhancing electronic-locking rear differential. Exposed steel front bash plate. Heavy-duty front skid plate. Skid plates for the electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) electronic motor, transfer case and fuel tank. And inside, a cluster screen provides feedback on pitch and roll plus steering angle. Included also are the Terrain Management System™ and Trail Control™, providing essential off-road technology.
The FX2 Package is new for 2020 and matches great looks with outstanding off-road performance. The package includes FX2 body side decals, standard 17-inch Off-Road OWL tires and available 18-inch off-road OWL tires. An electronic-locking rear differential, plus an off-road suspension helps keep you in command. Inside there’s a cluster screen to provide feedback on pitch and roll plus steering angle.
Terrain Management System™
Advanced technology provides an added measure of control, on or off the road. The Terrain Management System™ (included in the FX4 Off-Road Package) has four selectable drive modes. Choose Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts or Sand. The system, shifting on the fly, automatically calibrates engine responsiveness, transmission gearing and vehicle control systems to provide the optimum traction, drivability and performance.
Trail Control™ (included in the FX4 Off-Road Package) is a driver-activated cruise control system that helps you navigate more easily over rough terrain. It manages throttle and braking at individual wheels while maintaining a constant speed, so you can focus attention on the thrill of steering over the demanding terrain.
Electronic-Locking Rear Differential
Traveling on tough off-road terrain can be anything but predictable. What starts out as a level patch of dry dirt can instantly become a stretch of rutted mud. That’s where the available electronic-locking rear differential (included in the FX4 Off-Road Package) comes into play. When activated, it locks the rear axle completely to optimize traction at both wheels simultaneously, improving off-road performance when the situation requires it.
Off-Road Ground Clearance
High-strength steel frame, steel frame-mounted bumpers and potent EcoBoost torque give the 2020 Ford Ranger outstanding all-terrain capability. The Ranger body shape says serious off-road performance as well. Approach, departure and a best-in-class break-over angle are all designed to enable Ranger to climb hills and clear obstacles.
New 2020 Ford Ranger – Technology
Adventures In Technology.
The 2020 Ford Ranger is engineered with the toughness to take you on off-road adventures that few other vehicles can. And there’s much more to this pickup from Ford. The Ranger brings confidence and enjoyment to the driving experience, courtesy of its impressive array of available technologies — from the driver-assist features in Ford Co- Pilot360,™ to voice-activated SYNC® 3 and FordPass Connect,™ to the outstanding performance of the B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen.
BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) With Trailer Coverage
It’s rush hour on the interstate. You’re towing a boat on a weekend getaway to a remote mountain lake, And you need to change lanes. If this situation sounds daunting, it usually is. But the available BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with class-exclusive trailer coverage can help ease lane-change anxiety ꟷ It can alert you if a vehicle is detected in your vehicle’s blind spot or even alongside the trailer you’re towing. This feature can help detect and alert you to vehicles in your blind spot . In addition, Cross-Traffic Alert can detect traffic behind you when you’re slowly backing out of a parking spot or driveway.
Pre-Collision Assist With Automatic Emergency Braking
If the system’s sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of you, a warning flashes and an audible alert sounds. Also, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake. If you do not take corrective action and a collision is imminent, the brakes can automatically apply.
It happens. While en route in your new Ford Ranger to your favorite outdoor getaway, you’ve wandered a little too close to the edge of your lane. Luckily, the Lane-Keeping System can help you stay in your lane, even during a moment of distraction. This smart feature scans your vehicle’s position between the lines in the road ahead and can alert you if you’re starting to edge out of your lane.
Adaptive Cruise Control
You take off on a weekend for some fun and relaxation in the great outdoors. To help alleviate the stress of all the hours it takes to reach your destination, you can have your new Ranger equipped with available Adaptive Cruise Control. Just set a cruising speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. And as the vehicle ahead of you slows, so do you — automatically. When the vehicle ahead clears, you resume your preset speed and distance.
Between glancing in the rearview mirror and craning your neck, backing up can present a challenge, especially when you’re traveling in unfamiliar territory. So we help make it easier. The Rear View Camera may not be an extra set of eyes, but it does provide a great view of what’s behind your vehicle. Just make sure to keep the camera lens free of debris (like snow or dust) and you can navigate Reverse with more confidence.
Auto High-Beam Headlamps
We’ve all been there. Heading into a pitch-black stretch of road and having to turn on the high beams — then forgetting to turn them off again as oncoming traffic approaches. Now, unlit roads, dark peripheries and other low-visibility situations don’t have to catch you off guard. Auto High-Beam Headlamps can sense poor lighting conditions and switch on to light your path ahead. They even sense oncoming headlights and dim automatically so you don’t have to worry about blinding other drivers.
